Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club (Destin)

What a spot! I’ve teed off there a couple of times during family trips to the Emerald Coast, and it’s always felt like a hidden paradise tucked along Choctawhatchee Bay. Designed by Robert C. Walker back in the late ’90s, this semi-private course (open to the public) spans about 120 acres of protected nature preserves, blending lush fairways with bay views that make every swing feel epic. It’s par 72, stretching up to 6,894 yards from the tips, with a slope around 140 – challenging enough for low-handicappers with strategic bunkers, water on nearly a dozen holes, and undulating greens that demand precise approaches, but forgiving for mid-level players like me who appreciate generous landing areas.

The scenery is straight out of a postcard: palms swaying, wetlands teeming with birds, and those Gulf breezes keeping things cool even in August. Amenities-wise, they’ve got it all – a top-notch clubhouse with a lakefront restaurant for post-round burgers and brews, beverage carts zipping around with chilled apples and ice towels (a lifesaver in Florida heat), and a pro shop stocked with Callaway rentals. The Golf Performance Center is killer, featuring TrackMan simulators for lessons or virtual rounds on famous courses, plus a covered practice area with bunkers and putting greens. If you’re into more, there’s even a yacht club vibe with events, though golf’s the star.

Recently, it snagged an ICONIC rating for 2025 from BoardRoom Magazine and Forbes Travel Guide, and it’s consistently ranked among Florida’s top courses by Golf Digest. Reviews on Tripadvisor (4.2/5 from 123 folks) rave about the impeccable conditions and friendly staff, though some gripe about pace of play during peak times or the premium rates (around $100-150 depending on season – book via GolfNow for deals).

Pro tip: Go early for smoother rounds and pair it with nearby beaches like Miramar for a full Emerald Coast day.

If you’re in Destin, it’s a must-hit – just watch those water hazards on the back nine!
